Lowell Mill No 5 Specialty Food Tour

What is truly unique? On our tours, we think we've brought you to exceptional places with exceptional guides. That said, not every item in every shop is delicious, and so we have combed through to find you items that provide an interesting and yummy experience. Maybe it's the way they roast their nuts at Q's Nuts in Somerville. Or the backstory to a unique Lebanese restaurants in JP. Or perhaps it is the chefs behind EVOO and Za in Kendall Square that truly make the tour special, with their warm hospitality and tour of the restaurant. There's countless moments on our food tours that are truly stand-out.
A woman in an apron offers another woman a sample of cheese at Lowell Mill No. 5 in Lowell, MA.

In Lowell, we have really enjoyed bringing you downtown to tour the area among the Lowell canalways. Weaving through the cobblestone streets, you’ll experience all kinds of delicious eats that make up a full meal. Our new Lowell Mill No 5 tour is also exceptional in its own right. One layer is the amazing renovated mill. We will tell you the backstory of the mill, and you’ll come to appreciate its vision and history and how it took nearly a decade to become a reality.

Another layer of our Mill No 5 tour is the cool factor that all the shops are independent and local, and that you can bring your furry pet if you’d like if it’s well behaved. We loved the idea of doing an indoor tour, especially in winter months where an outdoor adventure is not for everyone! (Although we think our food tours are great in the winter.)

But next, we started thinking about building a series of experiences unlike any other. Truly, you won’t get the same experience shopping the mill yourself. Our guides will help you fully discover its offerings in a hands-on way. You’ll start at an herbal pharmacy and have your chance to ask questions to the owners before sampling their goods and taking home your very own healthy vinegar mix. Then you’ll head over to a very special pastry tasting where you’ll be enjoying a plate of unique sugary items that will make your belly very happy!

Afterwards, it’s time for a little protein in the form of a cheese snack. We’ve purchased pounds of cheese on each visit to our favorite cheesemonger. Next you’ll wander through a unique store where you’ll sip herbal tea on tap in beautiful teacups and mix your very own herbal tea blend in a mortar and pestle. And if that wasn’t fun enough, you’ll be trying your very own milkshake and soda tasting, with a variety of Lowell originals which aren’t found anywhere else! And you’ll end with a tour of a new independent theater where you will have the chance to play some arcade games of yesteryear.

We know you will love Lowell’s Mill No 5 and also our downtown tour.

Our Lowell Food Tours run every weekend year-round. Our Mill No 5 Tour runs Saturdays at 5pm. Please visit our tour calendar to learn more and book your tour with us today.
