Best Mac and Cheese in Boston, MA and Cambridge, MA
Donut Villa Diner (Central Square, Cambridge)
We love visiting Donut Villa Diner on our Central Square Food and Mural Arts Tour. But did you know they have a really extensive menu, including some yummy macaroni and cheese? It’s fun for takeout as well, and this version is a hit with the kids.
Redbones (Davis Square, Somerville)
If you like “sweet” BBQ, you’ll enjoy the comfort food at Redbones in Davis Square, including their yummy macaroni and cheese paired with out of this world mashed potatoes. Their pulled brisket or chicken is sinfully good, with a generous pump of their sweet BBQ sauce. We love visiting Davis Square on our Somerville Food Tour — and nearby Union Square as well.
Veggie Galaxy (Central Square, Cambridge)
We stop by Veggie Galaxy on our new week night Central Square Food Tour that runs on Tuesday nights. Owner Adam started this popular diner with the hopes that vegetarians and vegans alike could enjoy their favorite comfort foods that they didn’t want to give up when they gave up meat. Everything on their menu can be made vegan, and we enjoy their delicious fries and boozy shakes on the tour.
Trina’s Starlite Lounge (Inman Square, Cambridge)
Trina’s mac and cheese is very comforting, with Ritz toppings and comes in a big satisfying bowl. Add a hot dog, and your comfort food ratings go off the charts.
Stillwater (Boston)
Their menu is literally “elevated comfort food”, and their Mac and Cheese is no exception. Their way of serving it adds a dollop of pork on top (which you may be able to omit), and also tempting on the menu is their Ritz Fried Chicken with whipped potatoes. Melt.
Highland Kitchen (Davis Square, Somerville)
Seriously, don’t sleep on Somerville with the yummy mac and cheese. We love the Highland Kitchen version, which is a 15 minute walk from the red line train. Their side of mac and cheese pairs nicely with their blue cheese brussel sprouts or fried sweet plaintains. Yum!
Our food tours are a load of fun for comfort food eats! Check our tour calendar for more information on booking a tour.
Neighborhood Kitchen (Medford, MA)
Sometimes we forget that Medford isn’t in Somerville, as our friends at Tufts can attest. We love their “flexx mac and cheese” which you can add protein to from chicken to lobster. This neighborhood spot also has yummy wings and apps and breakfast too.
Salud,
Lizzie and Sam
