Here are the top restaurants in Boston with gluten-free options:
For those who are not friends with gluten, Boston has an emergent scene to make sure all can be accommodated. From fully dedicated gluten free kitchens to carefully prepared gluten free items within other food establishments, the Boston novelty of pasta to sandwiches to desserts can still be enjoyed by all!
At Off the Beaten Path Food Tours, we strive to make our food accessible to as many as possible. Our Harvard Square Chocolate Tour and Central Square Food Tour can be made gluten free (not celiac). We take eating accommodations very seriously and note that these tours can contain gluten cross contamination.
For some recommendations of where there is no risk of cross-contamination, here are our suggestions:
Fully Gluten-Free Establishments
1
Verveine Cafe & Bakery
The Boston community has agreed that if any bakery can convince you it’s not gluten free, it’s Verveine. Located in Central Square on our Sunday food tour, Verveine is a bright, inviting space that serves everything from delicious baked goods, sandwiches, take home loaves, and flour. It is run by celiac chef Monica Glass, who was most recently recognized as a semifinalist for the James Beard 2026 Awards Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker. While the lines are worth it, especially due to the ube brownies that can be sampled while you wait, try to go during off hours to avoid waiting too long. Everything you try will be incredible, but if I had to give personal recommendations it would definitely be the brownies and the elote pastry!
2
Violette Gluten Free Bakery
This bakery likes to say “if it tastes gluten free we don’t sell it.” If you’re in Porter Square, Cambridge and looking for pizza, breads, cakes, cookies, bars, tarts and pies then look no further. With an emphasis on using what is in season, you will see their menu frequently rotates to highlight what is available and often includes fresh fruits, vegetables, and edible flowers in their creations. There are no chemical dyes used, and they can even be found hand milling their own flour. Occasionally, they even dabble in making vegan cheese.

Jennifer Lee’s Gourmet Bakery
Jennifer Lee’s Gourmet Bakery is a dedicated allergen-friendly bakery located inside the bustling and charming Boston Public Market which we visit on our weekend Boston Chocolate Tour, as well as other locations around Boston. Everything they sell is gluten-free, as well as free of dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, and sesame. The menu includes both sweet and savory items, with offerings such as donuts, cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes, breads, sandwiches, and other baked goods. For those who want to learn to bake allergy inclusive foods, they also host classes from time to time which can be found on their website.
4
Carolicious in Union Square, Somerville
If you are not familiar with Somerville’s kitchen incubator program, Nibble, which we visit on our Saturday Union Square Somerville Food Tour — well you must check them out because they are bringing to life wonderful establishments such as Carolicious. This restaurant serves up scrumptious Venezuelan food, notably arepas, made from corn flour, and Pabellón bowls. Fun fact: Carolicious is the first offering of Venezuelan food in Somerville, MA. In addition, we love visiting Masala Square for their gluten-free pakora or nearby Himalayan Kitchen for momo or rice pudding but those have shared kitchens.
5
Silver Dove Afternoon Tea
For those looking for an experiential food occasion, treat yourself to an English style afternoon tea right in Boston. Silver Dove Afternoon Tea is a locally owned dedicated afternoon-tea experience, and its entire menu is completely gluten-free and oat-free. The tea service includes an individual pot of tea and a selection of traditional afternoon-tea foods and sweets, with menus that change seasonally. Silver Dove also offers vegan and dairy-free menus with advance notice. Who doesn’t love a good scone with some jam and clotted cream?

6
All’Antico Vinaio
While this is not a gluten free kitchen, if anyone is seeing the lines at this famous sandwich shop and were wishing they could try the Florence monstrous sandwiches for themselves, you would be in luck. They currently offer gluten free focaccia that can be filled with their incredible spread of cheeses, meats, vegetables, and sauces. If you ever make your way to Italy, they actually offer 100% GF restaurants in Milan and Forte dei Marmi.
7
Libertine – Portuguese-Italian Food in the North End
Our Boston Chocolate Tour ends in the North End, and you may enjoy going to Libertine for a delicious gluten-free meal afterwards. Most of their menu is either naturally gluten-free or has a gluten-free alternative, and they are very good and conscious about allergy awareness.
Conclusion: Many Of Our Boston Food Tours Are Gluten-Free!
We care so much about being welcoming and warm to all of our guests — including those with dietary restrictions or allergies. We do our best to offer options for all, but please email us if there’s ever any questions.
Let’s share a meal!!!
