Do you like to go ice skating in Boston? Are you looking for the best places to go ice skating in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville? Here’s our recommendations for where to ice skate in Boston. Let’s go public ice skating near me!
Indoor and Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks in Boston and Cambridge Area
Skate Canal District Kendall (Kendall Square, Cambridge)
Many people don’t realize how close Kendall Square is to downtown Boston. On our Kendall Square Progressive Dinner Food Tour, we pass right by this outdoor rink. You can even take lessons here – it’s a lot of fun! You can go ice skating before our food tours, and it’s a short distance from our Central Square Food and Mural Arts Tour as well.
Johnson Ice Rink @ MIT (Central Square, Cambridge)
You need a temporary pass to skate here, but it’s a solid rink and a lot of fun. Definitely call ahead as they did close it for non-members during COVID for some time.
Somerville Veteran’s Memorial Rink (Union Square, Somerville)
A short distance from our Union Square, Somerville Food Tour is this indoor rink hidden from plain sight. It’s pretty much no-frills but you can easily grab a drink at nearby Aeronaut Brewery afterwards! Check the calendar ahead of public ice skating times as they tend to be on the weekends.

Boston’s Frog Pond (Back Bay, Massachusetts)
Skating on Boston’s Frog Pond, an iconic section of the Public Garden, may feel hectic and invigorating — it’s a holiday tradition and we’ve noticed many local office workers go to skate during their lunch break. Albeit busy and somewhat touristy, this spot can be a lot of fun for kids as well — and you can wander to nearby Charles Street to find some tasty hot chocolate or to Chinatown for dinner.
Steriti Memorial Rink (North End, Boston, Massachusetts)
One of our favorite places to go ice skating in Boston is this indoor rink right in the North End. We’ve been known to attend a weekend festival and enjoy a spin or two around the rink. Afterwards, be sure to check out our Favorite Restaurants in Boston’s North End.
The Rink at 401 Park (Fenway, Boston)
Looking for outdoor ice skating in Boston? On our Fenway Food Tour we visit Time Out Market. But did you know there’s an outdoor ice skating rink right there? They also have some really cool events like free yoga on the ice! On Friday and Saturdays, Time Out Market vendors host concession stands for skaters, but you can always pop in there to warm up! This is also a really fun date night activity if you plan ahead.
Warrior Ice Arena (Brighton, Massachusetts)
Do you want to check out this state of the art indoor rink where the Bruins practice and play? They offer limited free skate hours, but it’s a lot of fun and afterwards you can check out Top Things To Do in Allston.
Kelly Outdoor Rink (Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA)
Public ice skating Boston is made by DCR. This rink is small but affordable for skaters on a budget, with rental fees costing $3/guest and no fee to skate. It’s nice to have an outdoor rink right in Jamaica Plain. We visit many delicious foods on our JP Vegan Chocolate Tour and JP Food Tour! This rink is located right behind the Stonybrook T station on the Orange Line on the MBTA but you can also find some parking nearby. Just check the dates because it’s not open year-round.
